Was Jesus a Socialist?

I recently heard someone say: Jesus was a socialist.

Some campaign buzzwords and phrases that have been used these past four-plus years include “socialism” and “share the wealth.” Most of the time, these words and phrases are linked to attacks on President Obama.

Republican talking heads do all they can to cast the president in a negative light when it comes to universal health care and the beefing up of  government-run programs such as welfare, food stamps, etc. to care for the poor.

At the National Prayer Breakfast, the president tried to use a “What would Jesus do?” theme as a tactic to advance his political objectives.

In light of this national discussion, I’ve actually had to challenge my Republican leanings and my Christian beliefs and ask myself: Was it Jesus’ desire for us to share our wealth with others and support them through the funnel of government? Read more »

Trampled by a donkey

Yesterday was Palm Sunday.

We had a guest preacher at our church and he helped me understand, somewhat, one of the many mysteries of the Bible that has perplexed me for years.

“What changed between Sunday and Friday?”

Sunday is Palm Sunday, the day Jesus arrived in Jerusalem and was heralded as the coming King! A crowd of thousands of Jews, armed with palms, rushed out to meet him as he entered the city. The Jews believed him to be the one of whom Scripture foretold, the one to sweep in and squash their Roman occupiers.

On a scale of 1 to 10……..

All three of my children were born via c-section. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I got to schedule the day, make sure my hair and makeup looked good for the inevitable photos, and best of all, I got a morphine button. By the time I had number three, I was certain that this delivery and post-op recuperation would be quick like the first two. Read more »
